Hide and Seek: All players, including the Slice Owner will pick a slice. However, if they vote for different players, then the Slice Owner gets the pot instead. If they vote for the same player unanimously, then they get the pot. Choose a Winner: All the players except the Slice Owner get to decide to give the pot to someone else. Those are the possible bonuses they may get: Most of the effects pertain to other the players scores. If the wheel lands on their slice, they not only get the pot for themselves, but they can also get a bonus. Power Slice: The person who does best in the final question of a round (or the person who is randomly selected in a tiebreaker) will earn this slice. If more than one person shares a slice, they will split the pot. The spinner will send the Wheel into a spin, and players will get points if it stops on their slice. This is the only type of question where the answers are not shown at the end.Īfter every trivia round, the players will use the slices they've earned by placing them on the Wheel's face. They must guess which answer is correct, determined by the prompt. This or That: Two answers will show up at a time.Subjectively Yours, The Wheel: It's like Don't Forget to Write, except the answers are based on the Wheel's preference. You can get extra points for writing answers that nobody else has. After each question, the players who got the highest scores get a bonus slice, while the player who got the absolute highest score gets 2 slices. The Wheel will ask 3 questions, with unique ways of answering. The jackbox party pack two players

Just imagine a pretty direct, and pretty shameless, copy of Ernest Kline's iconic science fiction novel, and you're there. well, why am I even summarising this? It's just Ready Player One. The human race has been relegated to living in toxic urban slums, suppressed and confined to Mega Cities in the year 2054, and the only way to escape the grey void is through Prisma Technologies' remarkable invention, the Hyper Scape, which presents itself a digital city, Neo Arcadia. The Hyper Scape is, in the game's universe, the next version of the Internet, or Internet 2.0 if you will. Yes, in Hyper Scape you are thrown into an open-world arena with little to fight with, and then you and your team are gradually funnelled into an increasingly smaller part of that world in order to encourage conflict so that only one victor ultimately remains, but it's the mobility and verticality that separates this particular version of that expected structure from its peers. The question is, then: is Hyper Scape good enough to stand with the rest of the successes? Let's find out.Īt first glance, Hyper Scape seems to do just the thing that I've come to expect from BR success stories, which is a relatively new spin on a very well-worn and well-known formula. So now that the market seems filled to the brim with worthwhile battle royale experiences, Ubisoft has arrived with Hyper Scape, and the publisher is, of course, hoping, like Apex and Warzone, that there's just enough room for another major hit filled with updates, microtransactions, and one season pass after another. However, as stated above, it's not always strategically sound to headlessly follow a trend created by others, and on the other hand, we have witnessed some prolific and outright embarrassing failures, like The Culling 2, Radical Heights, H1Z1, and even Firestorm in Battlefield V to some extent. While that kind of thinking doesn't always bear fruit, a number of follow-up success stories have emerged, and these are still on-going and successful today, from Apex Legends to Call of Duty: Warzone, from Fortnite to Fall Guys. When crossplay arrives, and if the Hyper Scape team can make some much-needed updates (and add new content) there is hope for the futuristic Battle Royale yet. After the gigantic, world-spanning, landmark release of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, a tide of developers and publishers were quick to flock to the latest and greatest of gaming trends, the battle royale, to get their slice of the cake. Big promises were made, and as of yet, Ubisoft have not delivered on any of them. Surely, crossplay would be the saving grace of Hyper Scape, allowing streamers to play in mixed lobbies for further viewership potential (not to mention, actually fully lobbies…)? Is Hyper Scape Dying? The game can be played on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and Ubisoft did reveal that crossplay support is coming 'at a later date', we just don't know when that may be. Teleport is Omen all over, while the Wall is suspiciously similar to Sage's ability in the FPS. They too seem to take inspiration from Apex Legends (Reveal – Bloodhound scan etc.), and, weirdly enough, Riot Games' tactical shooter VALORANT. It isn't just the design – the weapons act in almost exactly the same way, from damage numbers to clip sizes.Īnother thing to touch on is the abilities themselves, or ' Hacks', as Hyper Scape calls them. It’s almost a meme how similar the guns are to the aforementioned BR Apex Legends. Is Hyper Scape A Copycat?Īnother downfall of Hyper Scape, it has to be said, is the copycat nature of the weapons and abilities available in the game. It seems the “cutting edge” Twitch extension, wasn’t enough to lure in viewership. This, in Ubisoft’s mind, was engineered to make the game perfect for content creators to play on stream, and engage their audience, therefore creating more Hyper Scape players.Īt the time of writing, the Hyper Scape Twitch stats are showing a paltry 356 viewers, compared to the similar game Apex Legends, which boasts… well – a LOT more.
